Mombasa County to Buy Buses for Sports Teams

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir has pledged to purchase buses for various sports teams in Mombasa. Speaking at a youth event, Nassir said the initiative aims to ease challenges faced by the teams, such as financial constraints and transport issues. Nassir noted that he has directed the Mombasa County Assembly to pass a motion for the purchase of the buses within the current term. He also instructed the county’s Department of Youth and Sports to establish a clear framework on how the buses will be managed and serve residents. “We don’t want to buy buses that later stall; we need to come up with a concrete plan to ensure the sustainability of those buses for the benefit of our youth,” said Nassir. The Governor further pledged that the county government will build more stadiums to take advantage of the upcoming AFCON 2027 tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

MCA demand Jobs for Locals During Kongowea Level 4 Hospital Construction

Kongowea MCA Samuel Mwaura has called for local residents to be given priority for jobs during the construction phase of the Kongowea Level 4 Hospital in Nyali Constituency. Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, which was presided over by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Mwaura (UDA) said the move would have a positive economic impact on residents.  He also expressed optimism about winning a second term as area representative and lauded the broad-based government for prioritising development over politics. Nassir vowed to rename the hospital “Raila Odinga Kongowea Hospital” upon its completion. The project is expected to cost KSh 250 million.

Governor Nassir to Build Level 4 Kongowea Hospital

  Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has launched the construction of the Kongowea Level 4 Hospital in Nyali Constituency. ‎ ‎Accompanied by his Homa Bay counterpart, Gladys Wanga, Nassir said the project will cost Ksh 250 million. ‎ ‎He noted that the Level 4 hospital will accommodate 72 beds and is intended to ease pressure on the Coast General Referral Hospital. ‎ ‎“You will not need to cross the ferry, pass through Makupa Causeway, or travel from Bamburi to access services at Makadara. IG Kanja Inspects Proposed Police Housing Units in Mombasa

  The Inspector General of Police (IG), Douglas Kanja, has lauded the government for its continuous efforts to address the police housing crisis. Kanja noted that modern housing remains a key challenge affecting service delivery among police officers across the country. Speaking during an inspection tour of over 180 housing units in Makande and Bombolulu in Mombasa County on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, Kanja said he was impressed by the government’s plans to acquire the units from the Teleposta Pension Scheme. Police and Port Reitz Hospital in Mombasa County have been accused of negligence that allegedly led to the death of a female activist who was stabbed by ex-husband Ainea Namiba in Changawe area. Speaking to the press on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Coast civil society groups, led by chairman Zedekiah Adika, accused police of ignoring the deceased, Susan Achieng’ Mito, despite the numerous reports she had made at the police station. Adika said Achieng’s death could have been prevented had officers acted in time to apprehend the suspect. “ If even police would have taken action or even advised her to move away, she would be alive today. KDF Captain Stabs Wife to Death

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) captain has allegedly killed his wife by stabbing her with a kitchen knife in Nakuru County. ‎ According to a police OB report, captain Edwin Kaunga,29, stabbed Ann Mugweru 29, after quarrelling over infidelity. The two accused each other of cheating, according to the OB. ‎ ‎Police say the incident was reported by the couple's house manager Winnie Neumbe who is a Ugandan national. ‎ ‎"The deceases was rushed to the hospital by good Samaritans but she died on arrival' , stated police. ‎ The body was moved to PNN hospital mortuary while the suspected is being held at Nakuru police station. ‎ ‎ ‎
