Over 90 Investors Eye Dongo Kundu SEZ as Construction Progresses

More than 90 investors have expressed interest in investing in the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Mombasa, with proposed investments spanning the gas, pharmaceutical and steel industries.

Speaking during an official tour of the Dongo Kundu SEZ on Thursday, Transport Permanent Secretary Mohammed Dagar said the project had already attracted several investors, including Taifa Gas and Milly Glass.

“Currently, we have Taifa Gas from an investor from our good neighbours, Tanzania. We have Milly Glass and other industries that are already on site,” Dagar said.
Dagar praised President William Ruto's administration for what he described as a major project that will transform the Coast region by attracting investment and creating employment opportunities.

The PS said the Dongo Kundu SEZ is expected to create about 40,000 jobs once fully completed.

He further said the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is currently constructing a berth at the SEZ, with completion expected by 2028.

“In total, seven berths will be constructed at the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone. As you can see, work is continuing, with experts already on site,” he said.
KPA Managing Director William Ruto said the contractor is using new technology in the construction of the berths.

"This infrastructure will be able to withstand future developments",said Ruto.

Ruto added that the project is expected to create more than 2,000 direct jobs at KPA, while the arrival of additional investors is expected to generate further employment opportunities.
The 3,000-acre Dongo Kundu SEZ is being developed as an industrial and logistics hub aimed at attracting investment and boosting economic activity in the Coast region.
