Starehe Boys Students Complete 1,100Km Charity Bike Ride to Mombasa

A team of 14 riders from Starehe Boys' Centre and School has arrived in Mombasa after cycling more than 1,100 kilometres from Busia to raise funds to support the education of students at Starehe Boys and its sister school, Starehe Girls’ Centre.

The cyclists undertook the 14-day charity ride dubbed “The Dr. Geoffrey Griffin Bike-A-Thon”, an initiative aimed at raising funds for the two institutions while honouring their founder, Dr. Geoffrey Griffin.

The team’s Technical Director and Starehe alumnus, Ian Hicho, described the journey as challenging but rewarding.

“It has been a crazy ride in everything you can think of in terms of mountains, trucks and more trucks, but we are all well and here we are in the great city of Mombasa,” Hicho said.

He appealed to well-wishers to continue supporting the initiative, saying the funds raised will help provide educational opportunities for students at the two schools.
Among the riders are 17-year-old Grade Nine twin brothers Chrispus and Marklus Kazungu, who said cycling together made the demanding journey more enjoyable.

“This journey was difficult, but we encouraged each other that we were doing the right thing until today when we finished,” the twins said.

According to Hicho, the students covered the more than 1,000-kilometre route in 14 days.
Vivo Energy supported the expedition by providing fuel for all the vehicles accompanying the cyclists.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
