Police Recover Drugs Worth KSh151M in Coast Crackdown

Police in Coast region have recovered illicit drugs with an estimated street value of KSh151 million  over the past three months.

The haul included heroin with a street value of KSh111 million, bhang valued at KSh32 million, and cocaine.

Speaking to the press in Mombasa on Tuesday, Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno said officers recently arrested a suspected drug trafficker at Moi International Airport as he prepared to board a flight to Dubai.

 Security scans revealed that the suspect had swallowed 44 pellets of heroin with an estimated street value of KSh1.5 million.

"Over the past three months, we have recovered 10,000 kilograms of bhang, 37,000 grams of heroin, and 1,330 grams of cocaine," said Nuno.
He added that a subsequent search at the suspect's residence led to the recovery of 16 additional heroin pellets.

"The suspect remains in police custody, and the matter is pending before a court of law," he said.

Nuno further disclosed that police have arrested 27 suspects, including five suspected drug barons and 12 drug couriers, as part of the ongoing crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the region.

The regional police commander also cautioned politicians against politicizing security matters, saying such statements could undermine public confidence and harm the region's economy.

He reassured both local and international tourists that the Coast remains safe, noting that no tourist-related security incident has been recorded in the past two years.
"For the past two years, there has not been a single incident involving a tourist—not even one. We recorded the highest bed occupancy last year. I urge both local and international tourists to continue visiting the Coast. Everything is under control, and the region is safe and secure," Nuno said.

He also invited investors to take advantage of the region's stable security environment, describing the Coast as an ideal destination for investment.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
