Over 10,000 Participants Expected at Pwani innovation Week


The 7th edition of Pwani Innovation Week, scheduled for October 26-31, 2026 in Mombasa County, is expected to create employment opportunities for nearly two million young people across the region.

Speaking during the launch of the event, Swahilipot Hub founder Mahmud Noor said the initiative has already connected more than 25,000 young people to employment opportunities, adding that the next phase aims to significantly scale up that impact.

Noor emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between Pwani Innovation Week and county governments to unlock more opportunities for young people.

"We are positioning this region to attract investors because when they come, it will be easier for our young people to access job opportunities," he said.
He also noted that Swahilipot Hub has expanded its programmes beyond Mombasa and Kilifi counties to Kitui and Nairobi, broadening its reach to more youth.

Pwani Innovation Week Chairperson Dr. Kevit Desai said this year's event has attracted participants from across the region, underscoring its growing international appeal.

"Young people from as far as Mozambique to Somalia will come to showcase their innovations, build valuable networks, and take part in mentorship programmes under the Swahilipot Foundation," said Desai.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir reaffirmed his administration's commitment to partnering with the foundation, particularly through the county's upcoming Skills Mtaani programme aimed at empowering young people.

"We need to explore partnerships in many areas, including Kazi Mtaani, because these young people already have the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference," said Nassir.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
