KeNHA Hails Court as Highway Vandal Gets Two-Year Jail Term

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has commended the judiciary for sentencing a man to two years in jail for vandalizing road infrastructure in Mariakani,Kilifi county.

 Fredrick Rakoro was arrested earlier in the week by the Axle Load Enforcement Highway Unit (ALEHU), Coast Region while vandalizing drainage infrastructure and removing reinforcement bars from a newly constructed section of the Mombasa–Mariakani (A8) Highway near Jomvu. 

According to KENHA, Rakoro was arraigned before the Mombasa Law Courts, where he pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 24 of the Scrap Metal Act, 2015 (Act No. 1 of 2015).
He was sentenced to two years' imprisonment at Shimo La Tewa Prison without the option of a fine, after pleading guilty.

"KENHA urges members of the public to safeguard public infrastructure and promptly report incidents of vandalism or theft involving road signs, guardrails, drainage structures, manhole covers, road studs, reinforcement bars, streetlights, and other road assets" .

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
