Junior Tong-IL-Moo-Do Championship Kicks Off this Saturday in Kitale


A two day ​National Tong-IL-Moo-Do Junior championship event will be staged at the spacious St. Ursula Primary School in Kitale,Trans Nzoia County starting this  Saturday, 18th July and Sunday, 19th July 2026.

According to organizers, this year’s championship is set to be the most competitive youth martial arts gathering of the season

Young athletes representing various counties across Kenya are expected to travel to Kitale to stake their claim as national champions, fostering inter-county friendship, discipline, and unity through sport.

​The tournament offers a platform for boys and girls across three distinct educational tiers:

• ​Primary School
• ​Junior Secondary School (JSS)
• ​Senior School

​Young martial artists holding all colored belt ranks will showcase their skill, heart, and dedication in three core tournament categories:

1. ​Sparring: Controlled, high-stakes tactical combat.
2. ​Forms: Artistic, precise displays of traditional sequences.
3. ​Special Techniques: High-flying, gravity-defying kicks, breaking techniques and weapons application performance that test the absolute limits of youth athleticism.

Top performers are expected ​to walk away with medals, trophies, and official certificates.
​Organizers said the podium finishers in Kitale will secure a direct qualification spot for the prestigious 13th Mombasa Open Tong-IL Moo-Do International Martial Arts Championship scheduled for this December in Mombasa.

Tong -IL-Moo-Do Federation chairman Master Clarence Mwakio urged parents, Teachers and sports lovers to show up on numbers to support the athletes.

​"These two days; July 18th and 19th will reveal the future stars who will fly the Kenyan flag internationally this December. I urge all parents, teachers, and sports lovers in the region to come out in large numbers to support these incredible children."he said.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. She added that Parliament is also considering whether additional Accounts Committees may be necessary to speed up the scrutiny of government expenditure and clear the existing backlog. “We have been able to align our activities, which is why we meet yearly as a Liaison Committee. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
