Mwanahamisi Hamadi Donates Sanitary Pads to Likoni Schoolgirls to Mark Menstrual Hygiene Day

Schoolgirls in Likoni Constituency on Friday received free sanitary pads from media personality Mwanahamisi Hamadi as the world marks World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

The successful event was held at Shika Adabu Primary School, where Hamadi reiterated the need to equip school-going girls with knowledge on menstrual hygiene and ways to combat stigma.

Hamadi, popularly known as Mwanamke Bomba, further highlighted the significance of having adequate sanitation facilities and access to feminine hygiene products.

“By fostering open dialogue and providing essential information, we aim to empower both young boys and girls with the tools they need to manage menstrual health confidently and without shame,” she said.

Mwanamke Bomba added that while adequate sanitation facilities and access to feminine hygiene products are important, creating open discussions and providing proper education for women and girls is equally vital.

Educators at the school welcomed the donation, terming it a key step toward keeping the girl child in school, noting that many girls often miss lessons during their menstrual periods.

According to a study conducted in Kenya by International Centre for Reproductive Health Kenya, about 45.6 percent of girls experience difficulties accessing sanitary products.

Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
