Senator Miraj Calls Out Mombasa Governor Over Power Outages

Nominated Mombasa Senator
Miraj Abdullahi has sharply criticized Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir for allegedly failing to take seriously residents’ concerns over persistent power outages in the county.

The senator said it was unfortunate that the governor appeared to mock residents who are planning protests at the offices of Kenya Power and Lighting Company to demand reliable electricity services.

Speaking in Mombasa, Miraj said the frequent and prolonged outages have disrupted business activities and affected residents observing the holy month of Ramadan.

Residents have complained that electricity has been going off daily from around 6pm until midnight.

“When residents were complaining, he did not speak out. Now that they are planning to protest, the governor comes out claiming he already held talks with Kenya Power regarding the issue. Why didn’t he inform residents about the outcome of that meeting?” she posed.

Miraj also backed calls for intervention from Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to address the ongoing power outages.
