Police in Jomvu Recover AK-47 Snatched From Police Officer, Three Suspects Nabbed

 


Detectives from Jomvu, alongside officers from Mikindani Police Station in Mombasa have arrested two alleged notorious suspects linked to a violent robbery, recovering an AK-47 rifle that was snatched from a police officer.

According to a DCI report on facebook, the robbery, which occurred on March 14, 2026, in the Maganda area, sparked a relentless manhunt by officers.

Police say they acted on a tip-off, whereby they launched a raid in Bangladesh slums, focusing on the prime suspect, 49-year-old Pius Okech Ondijo, alias Pius Philemon Ondicho.

“As the officers stormed Ondijo’s hideout, they announced their presence with authority, but he didn’t budge. Instead, the suspect made a desperate bid for freedom by trying to escape, prompting the officers to give chase and subsequently arrest him”, reads the report.



Police say the suspect led officers to a second hideout in Narcol area belonging to second accomplice, Kellars Wanyonyi where upon arrival, officers discovered another suspect, Nicholus Oluoch Okoth, hiding in the ceiling.

“As the officers turned the place upside down, they uncovered the stolen AK-47 assault rifle, Serial No. 5426917, cleverly concealed in a sack on the ceiling, along with thirty (30) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. It was a startling recovery, with records confirming that this was indeed the same weapon wrenched from the hands of a police officer during that fateful robbery”, reads the report.



The three suspects are held at Mikindani Police Station awaiting arraignment.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
