Mombasa Welcomes Over 700 Tourists as KWS Launches Cruise Tourism Drive



More than 700 tourists have arrived in Mombasa aboard the luxury cruise ship MV Viking Sky, marking a boost for Kenya’s coastal tourism sector.

The visitors are expected to tour various attractions, including national parks, over the next three days while the vessel remains docked in the coastal city.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) flagged off tourist vans carrying over 400 passengers who disembarked from the vessel for excursions to different parks.

In remarks delivered on his behalf, KWS Director General Erastus Kanga said the agency has rolled out a “Cruise to Park” initiative aimed at transforming brief stopovers into meaningful and immersive travel experiences.



“We are inviting visitors to go beyond the port and experience the full richness of Kenya. This initiative tells a powerful story of innovation in tourism, sustainability, and destination positioning. It seeks to redefine how cruise tourism contributes to national development by extending visitor experiences beyond the port,” he said.

KWS also urged Kenyan journalists to leverage their platforms to promote the country as a top global destination.

“This is the message we invite you to amplify—that tourism in Kenya is not just about travel, but about impact. It is about ensuring that future generations can continue to experience the natural heritage we are privileged to host today,” he added.



Meanwhile, the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) said more tourist cruise ships are expected to dock in Mombasa in the coming days.

The vessel is also carrying over 400 crew members.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
