Bunge La Wananchi Defends KPA Boss in Jobs Controversy




Bunge la Wananchi Mombasa chapter has strongly defended the Managing Director of the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Captain William Ruto over the ongoing recruitment controversy.

Led by the assembly’s chairperson, Makani Pius, they stated that recruitment process squarely falls under the human resource department.

Makani stated that Capt Ruto is not directly involved hence should not be blamed for any alleged mess.

“Captain Ruto’s work is overall performance of the port. In fact his performance has been excellent all through”, he said.

According to Bunge la Wananchi, the MD is being fought by forces that want to install their own person.




The group further opposed the proposal to allocate 70 percent of jobs at KPA to be reserved for coastal natives, arguing that there is no such provision in the Constitution.

“Nowhere in our constitution do we have such provision. We are all aware that the port is a national institution serving all Kenyans”, they stated.



A section of Coast politicians, including Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, have been raising concerns over locals missing out on employment opportunities at the port.

This comes as pressure continues to mount on KPA to cancel the recent recruitment process over alleged bias and discrimination.

Parliament Liaison Committee Meets in Mombasa to Clear Legislative Backlog

The Parliamentary Liaison Committee is meeting in Mombasa to fast-track key House business as Parliament enters its final year before adjourning for the 2027 General Election. Led by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, the lawmakers are seeking to accelerate key legislation, budget matters and committee work ahead of the elections. Boss said the committee is reviewing unfinished business and exploring ways of ensuring that critical matters are completed before Parliament adjourns in June 2027. Government Urged to End Abductions Across the Country

Center for Litigation Trust (CFLT) has condemned the recent abduction of Standard group Editor Alex Kiprotich. The  independent Pan-African public interest law center emphasized the need for Journalists to be protected to be able to perform their duties.  The Trust's Executive Director Mr. Julius Ogogoh further demanded the government to issue a public statement rejecting forced dissapearance and abductions.
